Job Overview
The Assistant Controller directly reports to the Financial Controller and will participate in the advancement of company objectives as a member of the management team working in conjunction and cooperation with the accounting staff, other company personnel and outside professionals with direct or shared responsibility for day-to-day activities of the accounting department, including, but not limited to, financial accounting and reporting, revenue audit, budgeting, cash management, and managing compliance to accounting policies practices and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs and reviews all personnel transactions including but not limited to review of daily revenue accounting, accounts payable, fixed asset accounting and payroll transactions, month-end adjusting journal entries, and general ledger reconciliations
- Evaluate the schedule or timelines related to the completion of assignments, while maintaining service and/or product quality.
- Oversees monthly closing process and manages closing deadlines
- Oversees accounting procedures, internal controls (implementing, monitoring, enhancing), and database management
- Randomly audits work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized
- Performs and documents analysis of accounting transactions, including comparisons to forecasted and trended results
- Questions/validates data provided, gathers additional information, requests clarification/backup documentation, corrects inaccuracies to address other needs/issues prior (or subsequent) to the initiation of processing activities
- Reviews and prepares monthly financial review package including internal departmental financial statements
- Prepares and reviews reports that summarize company business activities and financial positions in areas of income, expenses, and earnings, based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Assists in periodic operating or capital forecasts in conjunction with departmental heads and other finance departments
- Assures filings with governmental regulatory and taxing authorities are complete, accurate and timely
- Assists and communicates with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits including preparation of audit schedules and accounting support requests
- Communicates and assists operational directors and managers in regard to financial results, fiscal responsibility and financial issues and solutions
- Keeps supervisor informed of non-routine issues and refers matters outside assigned scope of authority to appropriate individuals
- Works on special projects, as requested

- High School diploma or GED– required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting AND two (2) years Supervisory experience– required
- OR Four (4) years’ experience in a Management position– required
- OR Three (3) years’ experience in a Supervisory position with Wind Creek Hospitality– required
- Four (4) years in managing accounting operations with multiple direct reports– required.
- Five (5) years of previous accrual accounting experience, three (3) years of gaming accounting experience– required
- Experienced in Microsoft Excel; Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook (a skills test will be administered with a pass score of 70% or higher)- required
- Must be proficient and accurate in operating a 10-Key calculator and in accurately and efficiently typing on a computer keyboard– required
- Experience with several accounting systems- required Great Plains experience- preferred
- Demonstrated analytical skills in reconciling sub ledgers, bank accounts, account analyses, and cash flow projections and sources and uses of cash
- Knowledge of GAAP, FASB, GASB, accrual-based accounting, organization audit, fixed asset accounting – required. Accounting skills test will be administered

- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time and view information displayed on a computer screen
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist and grip items while working at assigned desk area
- Must be able to work various hours as needed including weekends or nights
- Must be able to get along well with all levels of the organization and excel in a team oriented environment.
- Willing to travel to other facilities
- Participate in training as recommended or required, some of which may be out or town
- Must have a valid and current State Driver’s License and an insurable driving record for purposes of driving company vehicles as required
- Must have a Tribal Gaming License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) as a requirement for this position
- Must have willingness and ability to work in a smoke/secondary smoke environment
